Los Yesterdays Show

Los Yesterdays Show
Posted September 2, 2025
It wasn’t exactly yesterday although it was “Los Yesterdays.” On yes a windy and pleasantly cool Sunday afternoon (paraphrasing the group A Lighter Shade of Brown). An evening on August 31, 2025 outside at Hotel Congress in Tucson, Arizona.

Already having sensory overload from the 2025 Tucson Comic-Con during the morning and day to be shared later. Something soulful planned for the evening. Looked forward to a band introduced to me by my Dad. Having been to multiple The Altons and Sinseers shows, knew this was the right mix for an enjoyable time.

My fiancée could not make the show. My Pops already had a prior commitment. Called my childhood friend and could say home boy Maury Morales to hangout. Listen to some Chicano soul and oldies or what they call “Souldies.”

Pre gaming and looking at some classic rides we walked to the Amtrak and Maynards Market & Kitchen parking lot. Admired some of the classic rides of all types. More pictures below in the gallery.
Maury and Ford.
Headed over to Club Congress and the patio area for some musica. DJs played the classics from Los Apsons, Junior Walker and the Allstars, The Saphires and many others. Just like being at the Jefitos house and having a few beers. Except for the DJs that spun the rolas fought the wind from moving needles that attempted to skip records. Groovingly entertained the crowd that slowly gathered.
Wind played havoc, ominous over hanging dark clouds still undecided whether to rain or not. Beer lines grew. The bright colorful Arizona sunset displayed then darkened to noche. The colorful beautiful people showed up. Wind continued intermittently and slowed. The show must go on.
Los Yesterdays took the stage. Crowd closed in for a more personal experience. Los Yesterdays greeted the crowd treating everyone like a familia at a backyard party. Three kegs, carne asada and tres leches cake.
During their performance Los Yesterdays honored and said a few heartfelt words for their Penrose Recordings familia sister Vicky Tafoya who recently passed away. You can find Vicky’s music on the streaming service Spotify and information on the Penrose website. Prayers for Vicky, familia, friends and all her fans. God speed.
Los Yesterdays hit every mark. Interacted with a playful back and forth banter with the crowd. A performance with such great musical talent, great songs performed with charm and soul that left a lasting memorable evening.

Mid show a shout out to Frankie Quiñones who starred on a Los Yesterday's video called “Who Made You You?” that can be found here:

Home boy Maury was hungry after the show so we hit Empire Pizza. A couple of slices hit the spot and headed back. Looked to see what kind of merch might be left at their table. To my surprise we returned after about half an hour. There was still a line to meet and greet the band. Not only just a few members of the band. The whole band.

I was pretty exhausted so imagined the band must be super exhausted after travel and the performance. They were all humble, greeted with smiling alegre faces. Sensed they were hoping to catch a bit of a rest for the next show I tried to hurry up. They talked with me for a few minutes which was a bit overwhelming although fun. You were talking to all the band members at one time.

Exhausted from the full days events rambled and thanked all the band members they were a joy to interact.
Gabriel Rowland - Drummer, Clarence Matheney - Keyboard, Sarah Gorza - Bass,
Victor Benavides - Voz/Harmonica, Melanie Medina - Guitar
Shout out and thank you to all Los Yesterdays and to the DJs that weathered the elements to begin that grooving vibe for the noche!  Simón!

Sincerely.
