A BEGINNING...
After the release of Sinphonics third full length album "Instant Nostalgia” in November of 2016. Loved creating, recording and performing this album. A creative wind and momentum set our sails for the next adventure. Even before the "Instant Nostalgia" release.

"Instant Nostalgia" more of an anthology. Each song a new and unique tale. The release party held in downtown Tucson at The Screening Room. The featured movie a documentary that depicted the making of the album. The songs performed in the movie.

At the end of the movie. Hidden in the credits. An enigmatic message of a new album that stirred. An album sequential in story telling.

In between practices and “Instant Nostalgia” shows. We focused on the new album. More methodical in the song writing process and focused on one song at a time. Once it took its initial shape started the next song.

Focused energy and intense hours. The new material for me more challenging than the previous album. Although not overly complex.

A theme appeared. Songs told a connected story. Shaped and reshaped. The adventure grew and a new voyage. Songs practiced, modified and reflected on. Until the creatures ready to be summoned in the form of recordings. This process began in December of 2017.

SMOOTH SAILING.
On a chilly December day in 2017 drums were setup in a small room in Electric Lion Studios. Multiple microphones targeted drums and patched to a makeshift control room.

Sinphonics vocalist. guitarist and Sound Engineer Andrew Rivas coordinated and facilitated the multiple sessions. Watched Andrew do his recording magic. Steve Valenzuela slept while standing up and meditated in between his recorded sessions on batería.

In a handful of dias and weekends the drums were recorded for the new album.

The New Year 2018 arrived. During the first few months Andrew quickly readied the bateria tracks. Now my turn to bat. Met at Monocut, Horror Brand and The Rivas Project.

After a few sessions and Andrew's expert guidance completed the bass tracks. Drums and bass were completed. Clear skies and powerful wind ready to be harnassed.

THE STORM
This epic could not be rushed and would take time.. Guitars and vocals next. We let Andrew work his genius.

Months spent arranging and fine tuning the drums and bass. All before any guitars could be added. Guitar slowly meticulously added and tracked to each song.

The vision slowly coming up over the horizon. The goal to have the album out as soon as possible. However hard to want to rush things. Life happens and art finds its own time in being made.

Much has happened since that time. Not just from a personal or individual level or journey. Vast change in the world. A pandemic with many lives lost, loss in wars, divisive upheavel, and chaos in the world.

Many loved ones who passed away during these years. We gave each other grace, understood priorities and what it important.

Things come out over time and that's ok. Experience reflected in the creative sharing. Not the same if rushed. In many ways we have grown and so has this album.
Many positives since that time. A few side projects. An EP completed. Continued to play shows, live, breathe, play, spend time with our families and friends. Andrew worked hard and countless hours finalizing the monster called "Open C." The journey started many years ago.
